Tony is curious about how author's teachers are forcing him to do these things. Are they using blackmail? :?

Kin's sorry she's a bit behind here, but asks author what instrument he plays it on? Is it the violin?
Kin loves traditional irish music and has even learnt to play the penny whistle and is now driving everyone in her house mad :P

And Kin tells Tony that in her school anyway, there are teachers who have....THE FORCE  They don't need blackmail

Tony points out that he had teachers like that too. The secret is to screw up so badly they don't ask again. Winning is not the way out.

Penfold wonders if Author could maybe take a piece of classical music and revamp it to an Irish music beat to make a fusion of the two? (A bit like Vanessa Mae did with her fusion of classical and rock, type of thing, and at least you can't be accused of not trying if they don't like it) :D

Will remembers a track on a Steeleye Span album called "Bach goes to Limerick" which did that very crossover. It worked well, probably because trad Irish music originated in the 18th century about the time Bach was writing. 8-)

Will has just been doing his first gardening of the year. Will's back hurts. Ow.

Toothy hopes that Author survives the competition and doesn't find it too bleah. :)

She sympathises with Will and his bad back. :( She wonders if the human frame has been badly designed as it seems all too easy to damage that particular bit.

Toothy is looking forward to tomorrow as one of her old school friends is coming over for Sunday lunch with her family. Toothy and Mr Totty are planning to prepare roast lamb, lots of veggies and roasties. For dessert, Toothy will make a passion fruit soufflé (at friend's request, as they had that a long time ago at the Toothies') and a nectarine, blueberry, raspberry and strawberry sweet dough flan in case the offspring aren't soufflé fans... (nearly typed 'soufflé flans'! ). Toothy is now feeling hungry, but has to wait until 8pm when food will be served at the school quiz night. Sigh! ...

OK, Toothy has succumbed to the offer of some Welsh cake from hubby. Well, she's allowed to after losing 2.5kg in the last 5 weeks. Hurrah! Besides, Toothy thinks will-power is over-rated. That's 'will-power' as opposed to 'Will power', of course. :D

On the basis that Toothy is now blabbering on mindlessly, she thinks now is a good time to make a discreet exit from the thread... *sidles out*

Postby Docandie » Sat Mar 03, 2012 8:33 pm

Back in the late '90s there were several folks who devised modern rock music built on the traditional and Docandie recalls PBS TV has some shows with mini "concerts" & etc.

Now this has been taken further with the Bach to Rock franchises - and Docandie seems to recall a short video with the same name from a decade or so ago.

She has also heard a Mozart Rocks concert and a Dvorak Rocks segment - there was also "We Will Rock You" (by Queen) which was derived from Aaron Copeland's Fanfare for the Common Man.

Tony points out that Emerson, Lake and Palmer also did a version of Copland's Fanfare for the Common Man, as well as a version of Rodeo by Copland. They also did an album based on Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition. :)

And Eric Carmen thought people wouldn't know Rachmaninov enough to notice his rip off of his second Piano Concerto in his song 'All By Myself'.

That was an expensive mistake by Eric.
